Palestinian Ambulance in Tel Rumeida

An historic moment. I was surprised to see a Palestinian ambulance in Tel Rumeida. They are not normally allowed through the checkpoints. I had heard that Hannah, Arwa’s cousin had been taken to hospital in Jerusalem by ambulance in the night. Now she was coming home again. She was escorted by the International Red Cross, police and the chief army commander himself. It turned out that she had been held up for 2 hours and not allowed to pass the checkpoint. Then they had to take her to hospital in Hebron to drip feed her and then she waited another 2 hours at the checkpoint. The soldier refused to open the gate for her, even when given a direct order from his commander. In the end the commander had to open the gate himself. We visited Hannah the next day. She is recovered from her ordeal and is much better now.

Our Hebron

Our Hebron

Today (Sunday) is the end of Sukkot and a couple of settler teenagers went around and removed all the large banners which have been up outside Palestinian homes for the festival. They left up on the lamp posts the Israeli flags and orange "support for settlements" ribbons which are also very provocative.

Palestinians here are very restrained in the face of constant provocations. No one tried to remove any of the banners or flags.

These banners were on our corner across from the flat. A friendly soldier told me that the first one says "Hebron; ours and our ancestors" The second apparently says "Hebron for ever".
