Meeting at British Consulate
On Tuesday I went to Jerusalem to meet and official at the British Consulate. Suha Zeidan was very sympathetic as I explained about the problems of thieving in the Old City. I gave her copies of the petition and our press release which outlines the various meetings we have had with the Mayor, Governor, Head of Police, Chief Judge and the Hebron rehabilitation Committee.
I asked if someone from the Consulate could visit Hebron and meet the traders as this would help give them confidence. The consulate have plans to visit Hebron to follow up on the Horses and Carriages project and she thought they would be able to tour the Old City and talk to people.
I told her about the Governor and HRC’s proposal to have a conference of foreign ambassadors in the Old City and asked her opinion and whether I need to go to Tel Aviv to talk to the British Ambassador there.
I also told her about all the soldier violence and bullying we have been experiencing in Tel Rumeida. She asked me to put everything in writing and she will follow up with her superiors.
While I was in Jerusalem I visited Sheikh Abdel Aziz and gave him some goats yoghurt he had asked for. I also prayed at al Aqsa. There were huge crowds there for Ramadan.
